A bit from my own wedding...

Yes planning a wedding is stressful, let alone doing your own flowers, but I was up for the challenge and figured family would be around if anything drastic fell out of place. It worked, it all came together and I was happy with the outcome, especially my own bouquet: dahlia's, freesia, orchids, pin cushion proteas and hypericum. I used all the left over orchids, dahlia's and freesia wherever I found a spot for them.

 Winter Wedding

For a unique winter wedding bouquet, Cami gave me a list of colors a couple pictures and let me use my imagination to create the following: White gerbera daisy's, scabiosa pods, gypsophila, ginestra, white roses & thistles. It's one of my favorite bouquets so far! Thanks Cami!

Caroline & Aaron

Caroline is a good friend of mine and didn't hesitate to let me run with her simple request of Hydrangeas, roses and any other white flowers. I loved working with Caroline because she knew she wanted a classy look but trusted me to come up with the creativity to her bouquet and I was happy to hear she loved it!
For her bridal bouquet, I included green hydrangeas, white roses (per her request) and then added some mini white calla lilly's and white freesia. Every bride should have a fragrance to remember their wedding day by and today, freesia would accomplish that.
I can't take credit for this cake idea, it was all Caroline. However, I did arrange the cascading roses and hydrangeas spiraling down each tier. It was a lot of fun!

Use of the unusual flora and fauna

Above: kale, liatris, safflower, bear grass, trachelium
Below: protea, cattail, kale, amaranthus, pom poms

When I look online at various flower companies, I see commonality. I see a lot of the same flowers being sold for weddings, showers, funerals and birthdays. While I know there is a market for ordinary bouquets and arrangements, I also know there is a market for the unusual and in-ordinary arrangements and that is what I'm working to accomplish here.

Belladonna: In Italian, Beautiful Woman

Welcome to Belladonna Flowers by Design! A small business designed to provide you with beautiful flower arrangements, displays and bouquets for your weddings or events.

As some of you may or may not know, "belladonna" is a lily native to South Africa. It's has many names among which is deadly night shade due to the dark poisonous berries on the plant.
The name Belladonna comes from the Italian words meaning beautiful lady. It's been said that the Italian women used to dilate their pupils by placing a drop of belladonna in each eye, making them more beautiful in the eyes of Italian men. The juice from Atropa belladonna was also ingested by some females to cause their skin to appear more pale, another desired attribute of women at that time.

The name belladonna was inspired by a dream I have to donate proceeds from this company to a charity I want to start someday. A charity designed to inspire and reach out to women who need a new start in life. Women who have been victims of domestic violence, cancer patients, refugees or women who have lost hope. This will be done by reaching out to them by way of Yoga, floral design, skiing, climbing, biking, painting or other various activities.
